Nubux Kick-Off

Last Friday I went to El-Sombrero to photograph the band of two former students of mine. They were contending in a band contest. The winning band would play at the Nubux festival in October.
Unlike the video that El-Sombrero features on its website, the club was not filled with wet bikini models. On the contrary, it was packed with angry sweaty hard rockers. As luck might have it the band of my students “The Seasons” got to perform last, meaning I would have to stay from 8 till around 1.30am drinking soft-drinks as I came by car. Luckily I’m quite the fan of the music genre, so I had a good time. The Rage Against the Machine cover band “concrete jungle” transformed the static audience into a sweaty pile of jumping, screaming, thrashing lunatics (like the way a good Rage Against the Machine cover band should). This of course was a great moment for my fish eye lens. The downside was however that I had to get right in there fending off the drunk and angry with some very pricey equipment around my neck.
The Seasons put up a good performance at the end of the evening, but nonetheless the Concrete Jungle guys won the contest.
I had a great time, I hope it shows in the pics.

    Mooie foto’s! Hoe heb je dat voor elkaar gekregen? Meestal is het bij dit soort events erg donker..

    Het was ook erg donker, de foto’s zijn allemaal op ISO 3200 genomen met f/2.8 met een -2EV fill flash via de bounce card. Als je begrijpt wat ik bedoel :-) Hier is het fijn dat mijn camera zo weinig ruis laat zijn bij hoge ISO-waarden.

    Hey… dat spettert er van af!
    Klonk het net zo mooi als het er uit ziet? Zo levendig en vol power!

    mooi inderdaad dat de foto’s ondanks de beweging en het ‘moeilijke’ licht toch zo scherp blijven.
    Gestolde momenten gevat in kleur. Fraai hoor!

    Bram,

    Echt heel erg bedankt dat je deze avond foto’s van ons wilde maken. Ze zijn echt super stoer geworden. Als er in de toekomst weer iets is weten we je te vinden! (Nee denk je nu, als je blieft niet! 1 keer was genoeg! hahaha)
    Die op je site staan vind ik ook de beste.
